Sant’Ambrogio periodically organizes Technical Courses on the Design of Pressure Vessels and Heat Exchangers. The speaker of the courses is the Director of Sant’Ambrogio, Dr. Fernando Lidonnici, who has a very long experience in pressure vessel design and is Convenor of Working Group 53 “Design methods” of CEN TC54 (Unfired Pressure Vessels), i.e. the team of experts which has prepared the European harmonized norm EN 13445 on unfired pressure vessels.
In addition to providing basic principles on the mechanical design of pressure vessels and heat exchangers, during the courses many calculation examples from the daily engineering practice are shown and the differences due to the application of ASME, EN 13445 and other codes are pointed out. Also advanced design methods (design by analysis) are considered.
Participants are trained on how to achieve the optimization of the design, minimizing weight and cost of the equipment while maintaining compliance with the reference standards. They learn the differences between the various standards in order to be able to recognize from the very beginning which will be the impact of a particular standard in terms of thickness and weight. Those who have followed a Sant’Ambrogio course are able to design better, and in less time, and to have a better overall view.
